Minister Martin – No, we don’t want to pay credit card surcharges. Do you really need to go through a public consultation to work this out?

Just get rid of the damn charges!

Trade minister Micheal Martin has announced a public consultation over a ban on credit card, and other relevant methods of payment, surcharges to consumers. The Minister wants to stop traders imposing additional charges on the price of goods and services solely because of customers choosing one method of payment over another.
The Minister is seeking the views of the public, payment card holders , retailers and other interested parties on a number of issues.
He is seeking views as to what additional methods of payment, other than the methods of cash, credit cards and direct debit, should be prescribed as relevant payment methods for the purposes of new legislation.
