Estate Agents are selling loads of houses, multiple times

Are so you would be led to believe if you’re using Daft.ie regularly. Being in the market for a house at the moment, I’m using Daft.ie quite a bit at the moment.

I love their site particular because of the way they display their pictures (much more than myhome.ie), and I make frequent use of their saved adverts section.

However, in the past 7 days, two particular houses that I’ve been monitoring have been marked as sold on the website. Twice.

So, unless the estate agents were very unlucky in having two full scale sales falling through on two houses in a week, there’s something else going on.

My feeling is that the estate agents are marking houses as sold to cancel an old listing and then they enter in a new listing for the same property to have it climb higher in the returned items search – which on Daft.ie defaults to sorting by the length of time on the website.

  • Some of the EAs appear to be relisting everything once a week which may be part of what you’re seeing. I would say a lot of this is an effort to avoid the attention of sites like Irish Property Watch (well worth a visit if you haven’t seen it already).
