Eddie Hobbs’ You and Your Money – Not long for this world?

I was reading the January issue of Eddie Hobbs’ You and Your Money magazine. Something struck me as I was reading it – which was confirmed when I checked the staff currently writing for the magazine. It looks like all the original writing staff of the magazine (apart from Eddie himself) has moved on.

None of the original well known consumer journalists such as Eddie Lennon, Conor Pope or Bill Tyson, or even Charlie Weston are contributing to the magazine. Even Claire Byrne of Newstalk doesn’t seem to be involved any more, despite her high profile addition to the writing staff of the magazine a few months ago,

When you ally this apparent decline in the profile of the writing staff to the decline of circulation from a high of 60,000, and an average of 40,000 after the first 3 months, to an audited average circulation of approximately 20,000 at the moment, it doesn’t look good for “You and Your Money”.

Not surprised really. Was put off with the last issue I read a few months ago by some of the advertisers directly promoting schemes the magazine warned against. Not exactly an encouraging ethic. I know they have to make their money, but there should be some sort of self standard. Also seems to be mostly about investments these days. I personally would like to see more about saving money and avoiding rip-offs.

It has too many ads and too little advice. After the first 3 or 4 editions it just ran out of new content.

Can you tell me if this has completely shut down or not? I’m trying to find the website but it looks like it’s dead for a while now.
    Thank you.
