Consumer News Weekend Short Stack
Here’s a few quick consumer news items for the weekend.
- News of the World - Don’t forget to check out our new consumer column in the Irish News of the World which goes on sale tomorrow, Sunday.
- Buying Irish - I’ve written loads here about buying Irish products, and buying from Irish stores as much as possible. Unfortunately, the most visible impact of not doing this was announced last week – the complete closure of the Superquinn store in Dundalk. Now, I know there’s other acceptable arguments as to why people didn’t shop in that particular Superquinn store, but the decisions of shoppers to go to Newry over Dundalk will only have hastened the closure probably.
- Buying a Clocked Car - According to the SIMI last weekend, one in eight cars imported from the UK was clocked. Obviously, the SIMI have a vested interest in this kind of scaremongering – given that their members are losing out on car sales because of these imports. But, do you know how to identify a clocked car – click here to read more.
- Following and believing in your ideas – You know when you have an idea, but you think about it too much, or you think it’s just nuts and no one would go for it, and it gradually fades away? Well, for years now I’ve had a breakfast idea that everyone just laughs at when I mention it. Someone in Kansas has done it, and it made the New York Times during the week – check it out here. Well, it’s almost my idea – mine also had that deep fat fried in batter first
.
And on that “heart attack on a plate” note, have a great weekend and enjoy that Full Irish!
