Debehams are charging €448 for a Matthew Williamson Dress in ROI. I just checked the website and its priced at £285 in the UK. This is over €100 more, it's absolutley appalling the level of rip-off we are stupid enough to pay for in ROI.

@Jamie - Thanks for the extra link. I had seen that article on Monday alright.

@corkmedia.net - You're right - there is an element of a higher cost base here in Ireland, but there is also the element of the ripoff on the part of Irish retailers.

Retailers will charge what Irish consumers will pay, and as we've always said here, Irish consumers have had so much money in the past, they've been willing to pay whatever retailers were asking.

Now though, that belts are being tightened, maybe we won't be as willing to pay what's being asked any more.

And yes, the only thing for it is to not shop in the shops that are overcharging us - but should always have been the case - not just in these straightened times.

Whether that be heading north, or finding better value down south, we should take our business only to those that provide quality, service and value for money.

While I accept that the cost environment in Ireland is a contributory factor to higher retail prices, it does not explain North-South price differences of the magnitude that continues to exist.

Tescos here are selling shirts with a euro price of €30 and a sterling price of £20 (€22.03) ,Gillette razors £2.92 (€3.21.5) in the UK cost €6.36 in Tesco here.

Argos Wharfdale 26in HD Digital LCD TV £342.54(€376.99) that same TV. will cost you €519.99 here.

whats the answer vote with our feet the last time we did that a certain finance minister acused us as being unpatriotic shop on line? you tell me.
