I love this campaign slogan from Our Lady’s Children Hospital

Through something at work, I came across this web page and thought the slogan was fantastic – “We can’t build a wing on a prayer”.

It’s the A&E Appeal for Our Lady’s Children Hospital in Crumlin. According to the website:

32,000 children come through Crumlin’s A & E department every year.  We passionately believe they deserve the very best facilities, systems and equipment to make their stay as comfortable and as healing as possible.  We want an emergency solution that will last for generations.  That’s what our A & E Appeal is all about.

Please support this appeal and allow our little patients receive the very best of care from our dedicated doctors, nurses and staff.

  • “We passionately believe they deserve the very best facilities, systems and equipment to make their stay as comfortable and as healing as possible.”

If they really believed that they would get behind the plan to amalgamate the city’s (and country’s) three major paediatric facilities into a single centre of excellence.

Instead they embark on a solo-run, preying on the generosity of the Irish public, in an attempt to further entrench their separatist agenda. Why?

  • I would not give a cent to any appeal for OLCH. They have a massive fund in their Foundation – see article in one of the papers going back a few weeks and all they do is collect, never spend any of it and I would love to know why… My friends daughter, a teenager had leukaemia and during her time there, about four years ago, there was no suitable facility or room for teenagers to hang out in. My friends daughter aged 14 succumbed to the illness and died which was tragic for the family. So in her name, the family decided together with her classmates to raise a sum to do up the room to make it ‘trendy’. They collected over €12K. To date, not one brown cent of this money has gone towards this tiny project. I subsequently heard a young lad on Derek Mooney Show and he was doing the same thing, he was an inpatient at the time. Every time a child goes into that hospital, the relatives feel that they should do something for the hospital. Have you ever visited the place, it is for the most part squalid. I am not saying anything about the staff, they are totally excellent. I am speaking about the Management of the hospital and the enormous fund that they have. One of the things they stated in the paper that they used money for, was for childrens parties!!! eh right! The fund is several millions and it came to light when a family in Kilkenny could not afford an operation and an anonymous donor came forward to pay for this operation in the UK…
Think of all the funds raised by the GArdai and the Firemen…

No, there are far more worthy charities out there where their accounting is transparent. I think there should be an investigation as to how all these donated funds are spent. They do have a big Fund Raising Department and I would like to know how the raised funds are split.

….and that is my three cents worth. Good Slogan by the way, wonder what expensive PR company came up with that one….
