Tesco's recent purchasing policy to bring everything in form the UK has forced many Irish companies to close their doors and create higher unemployment levels and possibly higher taxes in the next budget. I welcome any move to promote goods manufactured in Ireland, as Steve White stated. The location of the parent company is of little significance if the product is manufactured in Ireland.
A fact many people do not know: Many goods known as Irish products are produced outside of Ireland due to the lower production costs. These products are only produced for the Irish market and not available in any other country. It would only be possible to have these goods manufactured in this country if costs were reduced and the minimum wage was reduced. Only then will we see significant improvements in our manufacturing industry.
