There was a discussion recently on the excellent Freakonomics website (here, but apologies, I can’t find the direct link) regarding how people would be able to handle an emergency that would require money at relatively short notice.
The logic of picking €2,500 was that it wasn’t so big as to be a life-changing event, but big enough to cause you pause for thought.
So, you need to fix a blown head gasket on your car, or you need to replace part of your roof, or get some serious medical or dental treatment. Any of the events likely to need this money would be items where you wouldn’t be able to call on any insurance cover.
So, could you do it? Could you get your hands on €2,500? How long would it take you?
