kennys pub, Lucan I
went for lunch at this pub today and ordered two sandwiches - one chicken
salad and one tuna salad with two lucozades.
To my amazement I was charged 17.50 euro - what a rip off!! The sad part is
that I could have got 2 carvery dinners in the same place for that price.

Clothes shopping in Kilkenny
I purchased a very nice top in Caza Dora in Market
Cross Shopping Centre before going on holiday to France this summer. It
cost59.99 euros which was expensive but I assumed I was paying for quality.
When in France, I found the exact same top, with the exact same label
/colour for 10 euros. To make matters worse there was a sale in the shop and
the top was reduced to 5 euros! I won't be rushing back to Caza Dora!

Hilton Bar, Charlemont Place, Dublin
I had a cup of coffee (a cappuccino) in the Hilton
bar on Charlemont Place today.
To my shock it cost € 3.50
Wondering if this is a record price for a coffee? Would love to hear from
others on this topic. |

Rip of in the quality hotel letterkenny co donegal
Hi, A group of young men from the Dundalk area went
to letterkenny for the weekend, just past, they were charged 44.00 euros
each for bed and breakfast, they were put 6 to a room, which
realised,264.00.euros for each room, not bad eh.
On arrival they were asked to pay 50.00.euros
each, deposit to be returned or taken of the bill when they were leaving,
when they
were leaving and paying the bill the woman in charge refused to give them or
allow them the 50.00 euro, deposit, saying that they had complaints about
noise.
The young men disputed this saying that no one
mentioned anything to them untill then, and they pointed out that everything
in the rooms was left as they got them,no damage or anything like that, and
they said that they thought that they were just making it up so they could
keep their deposit, after a lot of argument she gave them 30.00,euros each
back, retaining 360.00 euros from the deposit money, the cost for the 3 rooms
for 2 nights, plus breakfast was 1,152.00 euros counting the deposit money
which was kept on a made up excuse, It is a great advertisement for Donegal
and Letterkenny in particular I can tell you we will make sure everyone we
know hears how we were robbed in the Quaility hotel in letterkenny. |

storehouse, Kildare
have had a couple of bad experiences in the store
house, worst being once when a main course took twenty minutes longer than
the other main courses to arrive to the table, everyone had finished by the
time they got their meal.
it is too pricey for slip ups like that
initally it was a really nice place (or try it during the week when its
quiet) but they have let it slip

No letting it slip about it. The service is dreadful
and the food pretty average. It would be fine if it were a ~€30 pp type
place.
For my sins, I've been four times, and been served my the same savage each
time. Never again. |

Eros Coffee shop, Trim, Meath
Visited new coffee shop in Trim a few times recently.
Initial experiences were ok (food good, staff (especially owner) not so
good).
My wife and I went in one morning and each got coffee and a plain toasted
bagel. When we went to pay, the owner wanted to charge us €3.75 for each
toasted bagel!!! Needless to say I objected. However, she insisted that she
had to charge at least €3.50.
The problem is that there is no button on the cash register for "plain
bagel", just buttons for bagels with fillings. And the cheapest of these is
€3.50. So you see where this is going.
Of course the root of the problem was the fact that the owner/manager was
too retarded to see what she was doing ie. driving away customers. Not been
back since. |

McGowans
Was in there Saturday night and had to pay €3.15 for
our designated driver.
And worse, we would ask for Ballygowan, it was down on the receipt as
Ballygowan, but it was McGowan brand water. |

Spar, Howth Road, Raheny
Submitted via E-mail to Value Ireland.
I would like to let you know about my local Spar shop. I went in to purchase
a packet of sugar and to my shock found that they charged me €1.55.
I phoned the Consumers' Rights and found out that there was nothing they
could do.
The shop in question is The Spar Shop, Howth Road, Raheny, Dublin 5.,
opposite the Bank of Ireland.
Also I checked out the Mace Shop opposite the Cedar Lounge on St. Assams
Road and they also charge €1.55 for the same product.
All "Spar" shops apparently are not the same as the Spar shop around the
corner from me only charges €1.19, which seems more reasonable.
Many thanks for your interest and will certainly inform my friends about
your web site. |

Toni & Guy, Clarendon St, Dublin
Submitted to Value Ireland via e-mail
I am emailing to inform all about the appalling service I received from Toni
and Guy on 44 Clarendon St., which happened a little over a month ago. Here
is my storey.
Just over 6 months ago I moved to Dublin from Galway, where I had used Toni
and Guy to get my hair done. I had no problems there and I decided to stay
with them in Dublin. Initially, I used Associate Nails to get Gel Nails. One
weekend, I decided to do both get a Gel Nail Refill and my hair done. When
booking the appointment for my hair, I specifically explained that from
experience I would need at least an hour for the gel nails. So it was
arranged that I'd get my nails done at 3.30 and my hair at 4.30. However, my
nails took longer as I had to wait 15minutes before I was actually seated to
get them done (apparently this delay was down to another customer who'd had
her done done in T&G, but the style had taken longer than expected). As I
was getting my nails done, the staff at the T&G counter where shouting
across at the lady doing my nails how long more would I be, as the junior
stylist doing my hair was supposed to get off early (at 5). Eventually, I'm
seated in the black gown the the junior stylist comes over, and explains
that because I was late he could not do my hair. The fact of the matter was,
I was on time. However, both T&G and Associate Nails were running late. It
was brought to the managers attention, and basically she told me that she
informed her stylist it was he discretion whether or not he was to cut my
hair?!!!!!So he decided he would not bother. The manner in which I was
treated by both Stylist and Manager, was of a disposable type and I felt
embarrassed but at the same time, was determined to get my hair cut out of
principle.
Another stylist who happened who have a cancellation cut my hair. However,
he was a top stylist and I therefore had to pay an 61euro, as opposed to 50
euro which I would of paid had the stylist decided to 'bother' with me and
do his job. Not only had I witnessed this, but a number of customers at the
Nail Bar did to and told me how bad I had been treated. I have not returned
to Toni and Guy to get my hair done or the Nail Bar( which I had no
complaints with) as a result.
I don't actually know who I could complain to in Toni and Guy, as I would
probably get the same manager. However, I felt my experience should be told
to whoever is thinking of going there. |

Aer Lingus, Submitted to Value Ireland via e-mail
I'm having a customer disservice problem that I think you should know about.
In July I purchased flights for myself, my husband and our (now 19 month
old) daughter to fly Aer Lingus from Dublin to Baltimore on 22/11/04 and
return on 02/12/04 through Expedia.co.uk.
At the beginning of October I checked my online itinerary and found a notice
saying my flight status had changed and to contact them.
In the end I phoned Expedia 10 (really, 10!) times because Aer Lingus
changed my flights 3 times - all without saying a word to me about it!
I had booked the flights because they flew directly to USA without stopping
in Heathrow, while my outbound flight has now been changed back to it's
original booking my return flight is very different. So different Aer Lingus
have booked me onto a British Airways flight! And I now get the pleasure of
spending 2 hours in Heathrow and arriving in Dublin 4 hours later than we
planned.
Throughout this Aer Lingus have remained completely unhelpful, I only got a
confirmation for my flights yesterday (16/11/04) less than a week before we
fly and this was after the Aer Lingus office refusing to talk to the expedia
rep. yesterday morning. Not once have I even received an apology, nor have
we been offered anything for the inconvenience they have caused me.
The best bit is that Aer Lingus are still selling these flights on the
www.aerlingus.com site (flying one way, Washington BWI to Dublin on 2/12/04)
How can they still do this when they know the flights aren't flying?
As Ireland's most recognisable airline, this company are doing Ireland's
image no favours and I hope that you will be able to draw their customer
service failings to their attention.
Thank you
CL

Vodafone rip-off
I'm a ready to go customer with Vodafone. After
their most recent overcharging @#%$ up, they refunded me €70.
How can they claim that they're not ripping people off?
Any they'll especially get away with it with customers like me where there's
no bills.
Total ripoff!!!! |

Broadband
What's with the Esat BT broadband offer? Has anyone
availed of it?
It says that if you're actually buying it - after the 3 months - you're
charged €80 or something for "self-installation"......
What's that about? If it's €190 for installation by an engineer, how can
they justify charging you for installing it yourself??? |

Charge for tap water
Was recently charged 50cent for adding hot water to
a glass of whiskey at The Stanville Lodge Barntown, Co. Wexford.
( Printed receipt itemised this charge as 'Dash' )
I am wondering if this is a first for charging for tap water?? |

Re: Amazon.de
Amazon UK is appalling. Their prices on
CDs/DVDs/video are not as competitive as sendit.com (formerly
Blackstar.co.uk) who offer free delivery to UK >AND> Eire. There are other
sites, such as Pricestorm.com which offer free shipping to Eire. I would
never order from Amazon UK again--they couldn't even process a simple 3
Pound gift certificate correctly and when I emailed to complain, I kept
getting a form letter which sadly is becoming more and more frequent these
days.
Amazon.de has high shipping rates versus Amazon.fr, but customer service is
better from Amazon.de. My experience is that customer service in general in
Britain is pathetic--somewhat better in Ireland, but, of course, the States
tends to produce the best of the lot. |
