SuperValu

One of the worst Supermarkets I've ever come across:

* staff is very unfriendly (If you say hello to check out staff
you are stared at, it's so not practised by them!), and uninformed (no idea about stock, special offers)

* items are frequently out of stock

* the veg and fruit section has sometimes mouldy stuff that
would send the health inspector fainting, often the veggies
are really limp and fruit like pears really bruised and damaged

* trolleys are often stuck because damaged - I have frequently helped old ladies to get one out

I wonder if I'm the only one to find the service terrible!

Collin's recruitment

I agree-----haven't felt like hitting someone in a long time but this crowd has to be the worse....time is money and after being left waiting 45 mins to talk to someone in their office after making an appointment (by the way there was no-one else there--he must have been scratching himself like the monkey he was)---then went thru a load of bullshit with him for him to tell me the job was gone----confronted him about wasting my time and he said he didn't have my number---on the f**king CV he was reading about me---what can you do...moron ..........

Dr. Murphy

Recently went to see Dr Greg Murphy, Mt Oval, Rochestown. Arrived at 14:00, (when he was supposed to be back from lunch) He actually turned up at 14:45 and the whole waiting room was packed. He saw me for 10min, in the middle of which he took a 5min phone call to a "buddy" of his who was going to Oz....and best of all charged me €45 for the privilege!! Major rip-off as €45 is certainly excessive

Re: Eircom Bill

Eircom are in a monopoly situation regarding phonelines and there's nothing much we can do about the fixed line rental. However, I discovered a product called Swiftcall Home from a company called Swiftcall. For making international calls they are ahead of the rest. Calls to Australia, USA, UK were something like 5 cent per minute and a host of other countries were incredibly cheap (they were also better than Eircom for mobiles)

The Crypt Niteclub

Last weekend, my girlfriend and I went to thie club. I ordered a bottle of Smirinof Ice (33cl) and handed in €4. Barman cam back and asked me for more money, I told him that i gave him €4 already. I was then informed that i needed a further €1.70. Thats €5.70 for a 33cl bottle!!! what a rip-off.

Strange little car insurance story...

The auld car insurance was up for renewal recently, being insured with One Direct, the cost of renewal was 1500 Euro. I did a bit of shopping around, and Hibernian quoted me 1300. I got back onto One Direct and said I got a better quote from Hibernian (being the blaggard that I am, I told her that they quoted me 1200 Euro!), One Direct tell me they will insure me for 1100 Euro!
Now, my argument is that if these quotations were based on actual sound data, surely the first quote I get should be the correct and only one???

Langtons

My freind and I stayed at Langtons for a Hen night and payed 170 Euro for one room (1 Night B&B) on the weekend. Does this qualify as a rip off ? Considering this is January and there are special offers all over, and this is not even a Hotel, I think so

Foleys restaurant in Killarney town

was in Foleys restaurant in Killarney town on the 28th of December 2003. what a rip off joint!

no.1 laminated menus, very dodgy and these things looked ancient.

no.2 most starters where over priced. my wife had crab claws (€12) and i had french onion soup (€5). the soup was served in what looked distinctly like a cup and it had bread floating in it (not croutons, bread, soggy bread)

no.3 we both asked for the fillet steak which was €23 each. it was served with 5 roast potatoes (between us, i.e 2 and a half each!!!) and that was it. if you wanted mange tout that would be another €4.50!!!) i couldnt believe it. vegetables 9you know.carrots, peas etc etc), other than our 2 potatoes would be extra bearing in mind we had ordered a €46 main course. total bill was €98.

no.4 the wine list. bottles of plonk for FIVE TIMES the supermarket rate.

i eat out alot and i dont mind spending €100 on a meal (as that is the average in most dublin restaurants now) as long as it is good. but to be asked to pay €4.50 for peas or mange tout as extras to a €46 main course is a joke. it is also ridiculous for these restaurants to have nasty looking laminated menus, waiters that dont know the speciality of the day or the way meals are cooked, pathetic over priced wine lists (i have actually seen Glen ellen wine on a list recently??!! whats next Blue nun!!!??) and not even the right cutlery or glass ware.

we will be voting with or feet. as it seems are all the other tourists and fair play to them. i hope loads of these rip off restaurants go to the wall.

CD Prices

Went to purchase My Way - The Best Of Frank Sinatra in CD World in Dundalk. When I look at the price of €25.00, I thought pricey. I came home & check it out on Cd Wow.com & it was priced at €13.95 (Including post & packaging). Another typical case of rip-off Ireland.

The Goat, Goatstown. (V.Poor)

I was recently at a 21st in the goat bar in Dublin 14. I was appalled to discover (as it was not made well known) that prices were deliberately set higher in the function room than the main bar section. Upon complaint I was treated very aggressively and my drink (the first one since i'd arrived at the pub) was thrown away and I was threatened with being kicked out.

This problem (double pricing) is a total farce which publicans try to justify by claiming that they have higher labor costs for running a function room. Bull. Surely the price they receive for rental of the room, on-top of the profits which will no doubt be generated from the copious amount of drink consumed by a room full of 21 year olds, should cover the extra labor costs.

God I hate being ripped off..... has anyone else experienced this in Dublin?

RE: The Goat... Same practice going on in The Red Cow Hotel

The same practice is in operation in The Moran's Red Cow hotel at the Red Cow roundabout. I was at a 21st in there not too long ago and prices were 0.50 - 1.00 Euro higher than in the bar. Also, they were running three seperate 21st parties from the same bar which streteched across the three rooms, and didn't even staff the bar properly to do this. This must be one of the biggest rip-offs going on in the country at the moment, yet again, the publican is behind the scam. This kind of rubbish is the best possible reason for removing the protective market conditions that prevail over the pub trade. If pubs had to genuinely compete with each other, this would not be going on.

 Stauntons / Elverys

Irish rugby jersey normally around €78-80, which in themselves is scandalous.

Elverys before the christmas, they were €100 - and that was for short sleeve ones as well.
