Rip Off Radisson Athlone

We visited the new RIP OFF RADISSON in while passing through Athlone last week en route to Galway. Charged 4.50 for an unheated plain scone in self service bar! Surely this must rate as the most expensive in Ireland! Plus shoddy service as well- we were offered a slide plate for under our cups! Hopefully Athlone Tourism has more on offer than Radisson?????

Other new additions recently...

family album/kays catalogue

I have just discovered that Family Album and Kays catalogue charge you anywhere from €7.00 upwards for items returned which is crazy considering. Convenience but at what price..........

 An Post Rip-Off

Have just had 5.50 extorted off me to send a letter registered mail to London. That is absolutely insane. Normal postage was bad enough, at 65c!
That is surely criminal greed. Once again, monopolistic practices and no controlling authority, no competition, and no regard for biting the hand that feeds them.

Next time I may as well use DHL.

Wedding dresses

Can somebody please explain how a wedding dress can cost €1300 here in Cork - The Wedding Dress, Penrose Wharf - and I can purchase over the internet & have it shipped from Cork for less than €650?

Sagem MYV 65

Bought this phone for my son at Christmas. One of the selling points is that it has interchangeable covers. Recently the fascia became cracked and I went to a Vodafone shop to get a replacement and low and behold they can't be got! Rang Sagem and they put me in touch with Mobile Phone Repair Company in Sandyford who want E100 to provide one! Went to Carphone Warehouse in Blanchardstown and was told that this was a 'cosmetic' repair and therefore they did not have to comply with ODCA regulations for supplying spare parts for goods sold in this country (what a load of baloney) Anyway have written to ODCA but a company called Zoocom in Clonakilty have them in stock for E15. Hang your heads in shame Sagem,Mobile Phone Repair Company, Carphone Warehouse and Vodafone!

Eircom (again, obviously!!!!)

I have recently been in contact with Eircom to attempt to arrange reconnection of my telephone at home. Service was suspended due to the full outstanding balance not being paid. The balance was duly paid on 08 of April at An Post. Service was not resumed.

During the next week, on the 14th, I logged a complaint on Eircom's website and received an assurance from their Sean Malone, that the matter was to be attended to asap. From there on, Eircom made absolutely no attempt to resolve the complaint, reconnect the service, or even bother to maintain contact with us. Below is a copy of the messages. Unfortunately, the Eircom website has a direct mailer interface, so I have no copy of my original message to them.

Previously we had an ISDN connection, which was costing us several hundred euro a month because ADSL or cable wasn't available in our area. This situation carried on for nearly 2 years, with no attempt being made to supply us with ADSL or even to inform us that ADSL HAD BECOME available to our area. We found this out quite by chance, and changed from ISDN to ADSL.

The reason I am making this complaint more widely known, is that I am sick to death of being ripped off and treated like a criminal. This is a shocking state of affairs and I believe such monopolistic practices have to be stopped, before Ireland suffers a further drain by people being driven out of the country by business greed, and reverts to being a poor backwater country again.

I have no faith whatsoever in Eircom's ability to provide any form of high-quality service, to which, for the price we pay, we should DEMAND. Besides behaving like overpaid pick-pockets they seem to do the absolute bare minimum, and are incapable of maintaining the infrastructure this country requires at this crucial point. Bear in mind that big business is approaching a watershed, where they have to choose whether it's viable to maintain there centres here in Ireland, or whether they should move to eastern bloc countries, where running costs are significantly cheaper. Laughably so. And personal experiences also drive business choices, so although my own money is small-fry to them, I would be extremely hesitant about investing any business arrangements to such enterprises.

I want to break free....

Don't forget to tell Eircon to cancel your monthly equipment rental cost when you buy the cordless 4010 phones. You are no longer using their equipment so why pay rental on it?

Anti-Virus Software Ripoff

Having been caught out by Sasser virus (my norton anti-virus expired on the 1st, and I was caught out amost immediately), I had to go online to renew my norton anti-virus software.

I opted for an upgrade, to cost me $39.95 to download to my machine.

However, they wouldn't let me purchase - "Not available in your country".

I had to go to the Euro shop and pay €90 odd for exactly the same software.

What a bloody rip off!!! And not just for us in Ireland, but for everyone in the euro zone.

Charlestown

I reckon you do your best to avoid ever having to buy petrol in this town.

I found only 2 petrol stations there last Saturday. And both were charging a crazy 96.9c per litre.

Makes you wonder what happened to competition in the town?

Centra Palmerstown

Centra Palmerstown.
Over priced and under-staffed. never have much of a selection. if they do have a product they never have the same product of a different brand. example...tomato ketchup. they'd have heinz but no other brand. not even centra's own brand or chef or something. the shop's not what it used to be when the previous owner ws there

Odessa, D2 - crap service, Cafe Bar Deli & Poco Loco - great

I used to love this restaurant but over the past year every time i have gone there it has been awful - terrible service, taking ages and with loads of mistakes and often running out of food on sunday brunch!

On a good note, Cafe Bar Deli is a great place - some tables are a bit too squeezed in (no privacy) but the food is amazing and very resonable. the Caesar salad is the best in town and the chocolate ice cream is gorgeous! Only complaint, bring back the BRUSCHETTA that was on the menu when they opened - it was so good and now their starters are a bit lacking - they need something like this!

Poco Loco on Parliament Street is great as well - good prices, great food and atmosphere and cool, friendly staff!

 Great Southern Kilarney

I was staying with a group in the great southern and there was a blocked sink in the bathroom. I went to reception to complain but nothing was done. A few hours later I telephoned reception again - they said they would send somebody but when I came back the whole bathroom was stinking and the sink was full of effluent. There was a note beside it saying that they were unable to unblock the sink.  It was truly disgusting.

I called the reception again and told them that this was now worse. Then I went to the bar for a drink and when I came back the sink was clean but there was a note telling me that they still couldn't unblock it. In a hotel of that calibre the least they could have done was to give me another room or discount the room. I got neither so I would strongly advise anybody to avoid this hotel. Not only was there filthy hygiene, it took repeated complaints and the problem was not solved.

 Dixons - Bad Staff

Somebody mentioned the bad staff in Dixons in Swords.

I was in the one in the Jervis street centre *trying* to buy a DVD player. Spent about 30 mins trying to get help, which I couldnt, about 4 of them said they;d be right back. Anyway, I picked out the one i wanted, and needed a staff member to get it from out back.......spent about a further 45mins trying to get one to help.....

...I left empty handed.

Staff in the Blanchards town store are very nice and helpful tho...or else they think i'm going to steal something and just follow me.. :/

UCI

I paid 2.50 for a 350ml(?) bottle of BPM in UCI, at the same time Musgraves where selling 48 bottles of BPM for around 15euro(incl VAT), so 12 euro for UCI.

May only be small change, but thats some BIG profit to be making on a single item.

Bewleys Hotel for lunch

Was in here recently having their €9.95 roast lunch. Got served about half a spoon of garlic potatoes and politely asked for a little more.

The lady behind the counter scowled at me and snapped back "I gave you a full portion. If I give you any more, I'll get the sack". Charming!!!

Though I did get my extra spoon of potatoes.

Only okay food overall. Wouldn't really recommend.

If you're in the area, check out the food in the Leopardstown Inn down the road. Much better....

Londis - Upper Rathmines Road

2.75 for a Magnum Sandwich
Admittedly it's a big ice cream but 2.75 is taking the pi**!
The oldish balding guy who sometimes serves there is really abrupt, no pleasantries whatsoever, won't even look at you as he holds out his sweaty palm for your hard earned cash. Not a good way to treat your clients!
