Rip Off in
Kinnegad
After competing in the 4 peaks challenge, four of us were making our way
back home to the west. Stopped in this well known pub in the centre of
kinnegad ( Not Harry's ) for some dinner. Bought the dinner, cost €40. When
looking for some uisce, we were told there was no tap water available, and
to go to the bar. We were shocked when we learned we had to fork out €8.80
for 4 glasses of water, taking into account the dehydration levels were low
enough. Still, we tucked into our dinners, water drank in no time. We had a
2 litre bottle in the car, this was brought in. One of us went up to get
some ice, the bar man said no way ! We said what do you mean, we have paid
€48.80 in food and drink already, and you wont give us some ice. He didn't
like the fact we brought in our own water. After much embarrassing by us to
the bar man, he eventually reluctantly handed over the precious ice ! We ate
the rest of our dinner, drink our lovely cold water, and left, never to
return again. This kind of mean attitude is whats killing the country of all
that use to be good. We are a greedy ignorant country, who feel obligated to
choke the euro or dollar out of the visitors pocket ! Gone are the days when
you would walk into a resturant or pub and feel welcome, we like your
company not your money ! Rip off Ireland at your very best, the black pub on
your left hand side after Harry's on your way to Dublin side of the road,
take a bow, you are the chokers of all chokers ! The EuroChokers ! |

Golden Dragon chinese
I used to own a house down in Gorey, up until late last year.
I got a standard Sweet 'n' Sour chicken balls takeaway from them.... the
sauce tasted exactly like the tomato sauce you'd get in a tin of kids
spaggetti hoops....
Admittedly, I never got that dish again... but their chicken satay was
great. Just that sweet 'n' sour sauce I would complain about. |

The Pulse,

while the staff are certainly friendly the same cannot be said for many of
the patrons who seem to regard the word "stranger" as a synonym for "target"

Aran
Islands
If ever you go to the aran islands be sure to NEVER go with Island
ferries. I went with them with my family a few weeks ago and had the most
unfriendly service I have ever come across. Staff ran past us on the boat
almost knocking over my 5 year old daughter. My wife was feeling sick and I
asked the staff if there was anything she could do to feel better and they
just shrugged. I have never come across such a rude group of young people in
my life and I hope I never will again. As for when I went to buy my ticket.
They meade a mistake and instead of apologising they got defensive and I
left feeling like I had done something wrong. never again will I go with
them. |

Eating in
Kilkenny
On the same trip, I was in the restaurant Zuni on Patrick street.
Lovely bar out front, and a stylish restaurant.
Though I almost fell off my chair when I saw their prices. €10 for started
and €21-22 for a main course. €7-9 for desert. And €33 for a bottle of
Sancerre....
The food was nice, the service efficient, and it was a great evening....
But still.....that's a hell of a lot of money..... |

Re: dingle
Just back from a few days in Dingle, its a great place to visit and a
beautiful part of the country.
May I recommend a restaurant called the Beginish on Green Street, near Dick
Mac's Pub and the Church. Great sea food restaurant in very pleasant
surrounds, the staff and management make you feel very welcome and make sure
that all is OK for you. Well worth the money and value.
On the other side of the coin I also went to
Paidi O Se
pub in ventry for a bit of lunch one day and ordered a "Roast Ham Sandwich"
for €3.50 and this is what I got for it.
2 slices of normal white bread
2 slices of normal ham (nothing special at all)
and only 1 slice of bread was buttered.
No salad, no dressing, no mayo, no chips, nothing.
I feel that this place is taking the p--s of people both Irish and
visitors because of the name of the place, its a disgraceful that people can
serve up this crap and thing they can get away with it. |

- Parnell Square
First things first - €8.50, full price, for a Saturday afternoon ticket.
Bloody ripoff of the highest order...
And then, €2.65 for a kids sized coke, which was about 10% concentrate, and
90% clear white liquid or whatever it is that they use. The thing tasted
like brown soda water.
Disgraceful. And no, I didn't complain. I just won't be going back. |

What a
disgrace!!!
TP Smiths on Jervis Street, across from rear entrance to Jervis Street
Centre.
Was here last Friday having some quiet pints after work. Was sitting at the
bar, and my mate noticed something that really disturbed him.
They were serving back slops and/or overflow from other pints back to
customers.
They had a reserve of half full (empty
) pints of lager on the tray below the taps.
Whomever had the pleasure of ordering that particular lager would get the
half full pint topped up from the tap.
Disgraceful behaviour!!!!!! |

Omniplex
Limerick
€26.50 for 2 adult & 2 child tickets via credit card booking - family
ticket not available which I think is unfair needless to say it would have
been cheaper but wait for it..... 4 x medium popcorn/coke, 1 small tub
Magnum ice cream and 1 bag of Minstrals €29.15!!!
Cost more than the tickets and typical of this bloody country, popcorn has
to be one of the cheapest things you can make and the coke was watered/iced
to the hilt!! |

THE
FARMERS KITCHEN
If visiting the Farmers Kitchen Wexford, don't order the sea food
Tagliatelle as I did expecting a big plate of Tagliatelle lavished with a
white wine sauce and big chunks of seafood ?. Instead I got a plate with two
scoops of potatoes and two veg, with a tiny bowl of Tagliatelle with two
very small chunks of fish and 3 prawns......... what a joke |

Lunch
portions...
Lunch in Galway city is ridiculously expensive, but Ó Riadas/The Front
Door have been a favourite, until recently. I ordered a tuna melt one week
and got a large melt with fairly substantial side salad. Went the following
week and ordered the same thing, only to get a dish half the side, and one
piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato as an excuse for a side salad. They
charged me the same price....I have been boycotting since.
Same thing happened in Busker Brownes, their Caesar Salad used to be good
value, fairly large, but I got one a few weeks ago and it had shrunk half
the size!
THE LUNCHES ARE TOO EXPENSIVE NOT TO BE CONSISTENT AT LEAST!!! |

had the total unfortunate experience of eating in what can only be
descirbed as one of the bigest rip-off restaurants ever.
the service is appalling, i was left sitting for five minutes before i s
could get some water so that i didn't burn my self trying to eat what they
call "ocean madness", and which was quite mad....
why do restaurants try and hide the **** they are serving with cheese.
all i can say is really really really don't eat here. food is worse than
crap, the service is appalling and the bill, as per usual in totally
unjustified...
made me feel sick, and my girlfriend actually got sick.!!
stay away. |

Furniture
at Jim Langdons
I just moved into Lucan last week ( 21/06/04 )
Shopping around for furniture, I browsed around "Jim Langdons" in Liffey
Valley.
There was a chunky chocolate brown suede suite, big bulky armrests, that
caught my eye.
It cost around €1800 for a 3 seater and a 2 seater package. The shocker was
also that it would take 14 WEEKS to deliver... claiming it was custom made.
Argos had, I swear, the exact same suite.
About €650 for the 3 seater, €500 for the 2 seater.
They throw in 6 furry cushions, and said they'd deliver in 35 days.....
I swear it's the exact same sofa, down to the pine coloured wooden legs....
On the positive side, I was very impressed with Powercity. I walked in and
ordered a fridge, washer, dryer, dishwasher, TV & DVD.... I expected them to
say, well might be able to deliver in a couple of days.
Instead they said, "Ok... when do you want it?", and they automatically text
my mobile to confirm delivery time the day before they delivered. |

Went there today for lunch and asked for the smoked salmon seafood Penne
pasta dish. What I received was a pink sauce with no salmon just some
organism's tentacles (squid or octopus I presume) - absolutely vile. The
sauce was absolutely covered with these tiny tentacled tubes.Handed it back
and settled for the Turkey instead and even that was'nt great. Was actually
physically sickened after my visit and I do'nt mean I felt done out of money
or anything - will not be going back there ever again !>D |

El Med.
Temple Bar
This year I went with my lovely girlfriend to Dublin for a
few days. We ate at a number of great restraunts in the
Temple Bar area but on our last night we decided to try El Med.
Funny how you remember the negative so clearly.. We
ordered some white wine which came with what would've a clever ice bucket
type container. The compartment for ice/water was sealed so the bottle
stayed dry and cool -or as I say "would've" except they forgot to put any
ice in the thing so it did nothing to cool the bottle at all.
I wasn't bothered by that really it wasn't major. So we ordered starters. My
girlfirend went for deep fried goats cheese and I opted for humus, tapanede,
tatziki and pitta bread. The tapanede was gorgeous. The humus had no flavour
at all. I'm not saying it was a bit bland. I'm saying it was like eating
thick water. Oh and the goats cheese was feta in breadcrumbs and I could be
wrong but I'm sure it had a definite "out of the packet" look about it. So
we were both rather dissapointed with the starters..
anyway the main courses arrived time for the place to save face. Or not.. I
had chicken with spinach and (alledgedly) feta served with angel hair pasta
and a tomato based sauce. It was lovely but.. as the waitress placed the
plate down I thought she'd brought me some kind of starter, this was a
minute portion.
It could've been a starter. It tasted great -the short while it took to eat
such a small meal anyway. So I was very unimpressed with that. My lovely
ladyfriend had opted for a couscous dish. She wasn't too keen on it, it
wasn't cooked to her taste and she wasn't sure why. Being a helpful chap and
really hungry following my very small meal I polished it off. I soon
realised it wasn't to her taste because it was burnt. I didn't look burnt
but it definitely tasted burnt.
When the waitress came to ask if everything was ok I told her no, it was
terrible the chicken dish was far too small and the couscous was burnt, we
didn't require the desserts menu.. She smiled and dissapeared with the
plates. After sitting like lemons for a bit with no sign of a bill we got up
and paid at the counter then left. The meal was just shy of 80 euros -we
left no tip.
The previous night we'd dined at the truy excellent "Le Shack" on the other
side of the same street, we'd paid about the same there for a meal that was
vastly superior. My advice? Leave El Med alone.. For the
record I was still hungry and had to get a takeaway hotdog later that
night.. and before you ask I'm not huge. |

At the back of the Powerscourt Centre.
Was there for Sunday brunch there a week ago. The place is pretty cool, and
the service is not bad - nice and relaxed actually, which was good for a
Sunday.
Would probably be considered slow on any
other day, or if you were in a bit of a rush.
Only disappointment really was the selection of food. Not great really in my
opinion.
Value for money!! Overall I'd say yes, though where can you get any food
anywhere these days for less than either €10 or €12.95? |
