Garden Centre, Malahide

I'm furious!!

The Garden Centre in Malahide has a café – buffet style….. A complete rip off… I went there with a friend last week. Asked how much a salad portion was and they told me €1.75.

So I selected some lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onions etc. and was charged for 7 portions of salad!!

Apparently a portion of salad = each salad ingredient!!

Malahide is up in arms about it!!

Other new additions recently...

Pizza rip of

The Bistro Bianconi in O'Connell Street, Sligo does not allow you to share a pizza when you go into to eat. On ordering if you request a pizza to share you will be told "NO" even if you were ordering 2 starters, desserts and the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu - you still would not be allowed order a pizza between you!!

So be warned

Mother Hubbards, Cashel - Restaurant

On a recent trip to Cork we stopped in Mother Hubbards for a quick bite to eat. The food was typical Mother Hubbards - nothing fancy but nice. However the service and the cleanliness of the place wasn't the best. There were loads of tables that weren't cleared away and the counter area where we sat needed a good wipe down. I was also waiting from about 5 mins to pay my bill - standing at the till while numerous members of staff walked by me. Not good service!

Connemara Coast Hotel

Attended a wedding at above hotel recently. Had an impulse to buy some spirits instead of pints. Discovered from receipt that they're charging 50c for each "dash"; e.g. the 5mls of blackcurrant which I added to my Pernod and black (I know, I know...).

That's a serious estimation, BTW, 5mls. But let's say it was 20mls. Typical 750ml bottle costs - let's be expensive - Euro2. Therefore they get 37.5 servings of "dashes" at 50c each... = Euro18.75 from a bottle, or almost Euro17.80 profit.

This may be standard practice, I dunno, but it's ridiculous.

Broadlands B+B Westport

Just wanted to voice my dusgust at something which occured last weekend.
Three friends booked into this B+B in Westport. We were shown to a room with a double, single and fold out bed which we were happy to take. The woman of the house then decided that this was not the correct room and we were subsequently shown 2 rooms, a twin and double. She told us that the twin would be "a little dearer" as only 1 person was staying in this. Fair enough.
The next morning when we settled up the "little dearer" turned into double price as the woman demanded €60 for the room, effectively charging for 2 people!
Her argument that she was charging per room fell in on her as she charged 4 ladies €30 per head for 1 room. They also had to argue that they were misled.
This to me is greedy and underhanded. T
The room had no tea/coffee and no shampoos etc.
I appreciate that B+B's vary and that the people who run them have to make a profit....but this ripoff will eventually be the ruin of a lot of them...
BE warned, don't stay in Broadlands or if you do, agree a price and pay it then and there!..

Stand House Hotel - The Curragh

I attended a wedding here recently and found the standard of service very poor. We were charged €165 per room per night even though we were at a wedding (only 10 rooms can avail of a discounted rate). For 165 we expected the place to be fab but it was just ok. The rooms were no bigger than you'd get in a B&B and the morning after there was no hot water for anyone to shower. Throughout the whole day we found staff very unhelpful & not many seemed to speak english which was annoying when you were looking for information. We had a few incidents where staff were clearing tables & took full drinks away. When we complained to a manager he was no help whatsoever. I would never ever stay in this hotel again. I can't believe they can get away with the prices they charge for the standard of quality you actually receive.

Omniplex Limerick

€26.50 for 2 adult & 2 child tickets via credit card booking - family ticket not available which I think is unfair needless to say it would have been cheaper but wait for it..... 4 x medium popcorn/coke, 1 small tub Magnum ice cream and 1 bag of Minstrals €29.15!!!
Cost more than the tickets and typical of this bloody country, popcorn has to be one of the cheapest things you can make and the coke was watered/iced to the hilt!!

Got to agree with you there, the service in the Limerick Omniplex is an absolute disgrace. I whole-heartedly agree on the prices, but my girlfriend and i always do the sensible thing and go to the nearby tescos first! :b

We are very regular cinema goers, usually 1 or 2 times per week.

I've complained numerous amounts of times about the projection quality in the Omniplex, The screen is always focused wrong, and the framerate is very funny a lot of the time too.

On top of all that, We missed the first few minutes of dialogue in the most recent movie that we went to, because the soundtrack was not switched on!!!

Limerick Omniplex seem to be getting away with a lot at the moment because of their monopoly on limerick cinema, well lets hope that some entrepreneur picks up on this message, and puts a nice little exclusive cinema in limerick that has: Good quality projection, clean toilets, floors that aren't sticky, and of course professional staff that are treated well.
I'll probably never say this again but...
I'd even pay more for the tickets it this was available to me!!!!!

Omniplex

I think they're getting worse and even more contemptous of our business. Their prices are the same as Dublin City Centre cinemas!
I can't believe someone else hasn't opened another one but don't you know it'll be The Omniplex again...

not so amazon

How can you go wrong with amazon.co.uk? Simply by using them is how!

I can't agree that they're good value, more often than not you can get the same item from the .com site for less, and from experiences with them more often than not deliveries are late, whilst sometimes they cancel delivery of items without informing you first.

Some more gripes of mine:
I was placing an order with amazon.co.uk earlier in the week, and noticed that they add VAT on after adding the price of postage! I don’t know if this is legal or not (does anyone out there know if it isn’t?) even if it is, it’s certainly not ethical.

The effect of doing this changes the price, which would be £19.54stg if VAT were added before p&p, to £20.60stg. A difference of £1.06 equiv. to €1.60; not a huge saving, but I don’t think that’s the point here.

And the plot thickens…initially I wasn’t sure what the British VAT rate was, so I did a quick bit of math to work it out. In doing so I found out something else; the f**kers round prices up! Here are the figures: VAT at 21% on £17.02 (item+p&p) should bring the total to £20.59 and .42 of a penny. Now when I was taught maths- we were told to round down if the figure is below .5, and if above, to round up. Again, not a big saving, but it reminds me of that old story/ film of someone robbing a penny from every bank account and becoming a millionaire in the process!

By the way, I checked the same item on amazon.com and it’s €4 cheaper overall. I’m sure there’s a perfectly good explanation for why amazon can send an item to me for less, all the way from the far side of the Atlantic than from the far side of the Irish Sea. There must be a good reason and that they’re not simply ripping people off!

Another gripe I have with them (which has already been mentioned) is if you live in the UK and you spend over £25stg. with them, you qualify for free shipping. So this means that someone living in Dundalk as opposed to Newry will have to pay probably an extra €10 to get the same item delivered.

The Mermaid

This has to be the worst restaurant in Dublin. Bouyed by a few good reviews by journos this place has lost the complete run of itself. I was served an inedible meal by a very hungover waitress on Monday and when I complained was told to "@#%$ off to Eddie Rockets". I nor anyone I know will never darken their doors again.

The Joy of Coffee, Temple Bar

Not really a complaint about price, cause I can't remember.

However, for service and quality, this is a place to keep clear of.

Was in here on a quiet Saturday morning. Ordered my cafe latte at the counter, and sat down to start the IT simplex crossword.

Not paying much attention to the time, I was working away, and then my coffee arrived.

I had only 3 clues left to complete in the crossword at this stage.......and I'm not that good at crosswords.

And even then, the coffee was lukewarm at the best, and was as weak as that Mr.Muscle dude on the TV.

What a useless place....

GAA Semi-finals

Last Sunday, Mayo v Fermanagh, an astounding €40 to watch a game of football.

And don't go telling me that you got to see another game earlier. Who the hell wants to watch Clare play Sligo in the Mickey Murphy (mouse??) cup???

Just to show you how much that game was worth, it's another €35 for the replayed game this Saturday.

(€5 to watch Clare play Sligo, ha ha ha ha!!!!!)

The GAA is having a laugh charging that much to watch an amateur game.

I agree completely

We were there a couple of weeks ago, I order fish ( hoping it was the best of a very poor menu, all food deep fat fried )

I was sick for 3 days.

The service was awful, the food was awful, the price of food and drink - guess what, awful

Revive Milltown

After a pretty stressful couple of months, I decided to treat myself to a facial and my partner to a massage ( he had never had a massage before )

I decide that Revive in Milltown looked like the right place. My facial was nice, not great, but nice. The therapist ried to sell me everything she used, and even had the cheek to leave them all at the cash register for me while I paid.

My partner on the other hand - enjoyed his massage, but after we left, kept complaining about a stiffness in his neck. Which got worse as the day and night go on. By 6am the following morning, we were in casualty in Loughlinstown where they told him he had soft tissue damage as a result of his massage.

I rang the Salon the next day, a manager was to ring me back. I rang the following day, and the following day. Eventually ( by accident ) I spoke to the MD, who was rude and uncaring.

The massage cost €75, the hospital visit cost €45 and the muscle relaxant €27.

Needless to say we wont be back there.

Barmen here are all "hardmen". They lick the a***s off the local bookie-dudes but treat anybody else with ignorance and inexplicable contempt. Not a nice place for a pint anymore...

well i never actually found that.
the pennyhill do have a few brutal barmen with very little personality but they do have one or two that are ok. not so sure about the hardmen bit, i dont think any of them could be classed as that, most of them are little lads under 14 stone.
it can be a bit clicky with the locals but sure so is every pub in Dublin.
i have witnessed them tell 2 fellas that were locked that they had had enough and would no longer be served. thats only right and fair play to them. i also saw them refuse to serve fellas on a sat night at 8pm with tracksuits and football jerseys, again thats only right.if you wanna dress like that on a sat night then buy some dutch gold and go down the park.
the only gripe i have is that its a soccer pub through and through on match days. you'd never see rugby or rugby league or even hurling.  just skinny english fellas playing soccer.

Den Joes Restaurant, Killarney

Just ate there fifteen mins ago,

I had a a regular burger with ketchup & onions,
and a medium chips, pus a can of coke,
I hope your sitting down for this.
it came to a whopping €6.00
and to add insult to an already injured wallet, they but cruddy letuce on the burger, I complained, and got the burger in time for the chips to be gone cold, also the burger itself was luke warm. The piggish memeber of staff banger the burger down the bar under the stairs and siad rather rudely "NOW"
Basically i left hungrier than when i entered.
Try and avoid this dump if your in killarney ever.

P.S they also have another restaurant open in castleisland. avoid this also if you don't wanna be fleeced.

On the up side im posting this from Ri-Ra internet cafe but without the cafe, €2.00 for 30mins very good value and the staff arefriendly.
