Ryanair offering refunds on Munster flights

I was alerted to this generous Ryanair offer after a comment linking to a thread on Politics.ie on this post where I highlighted what seemed to be some dodgy Heineken Cup dealings by Aer Lingus when it came to Newcastle flights.

According to this release on the Ryanair website:

Ryanair has also freed up availability on its Edinburgh and Glasgow (Prestwick) routes by offering a “losers’ refund” of €100 per return flight (or cost if less than €100) to Munster fans who originally booked to fly from Dublin to Edinburgh and Glasgow (Prestwick).

Given that refunds are almost impossible to get from Ryanair (or just not worth the hassle given their administration charges) this seems to be a fair offer.

As the Politics.ie post points out, a decent deal for Munster fans probably, but definitely not for Leinster fans who would be taking up these extra flights, since according to the Ryanair site:

All seats are now available for just €349 return between Dublin and Edinburgh and €199 return between Dublin and Glasgow (Prestwick).

A €249 premium back to Ryanair at a minimum since the original tickets were unlikely to have cost the Munster fans €100 only, so they’ll get to keep that extra cash as well.

Then again, if Munster fans just decided they didn’t want to go to Edinburgh after all, the wouldn’t have been entitled to any refund just because they changed their minds.

It is feasible that Ryanair could have potentially been able to sell some of those flight anyway – when people didn’t show up for flights on the Friday or the Saturday morning. But that would have been too short notice for them to sell them all, so this way, they’re guaranteed to sell more of them at the higher price rather than depending on standby passengers.

Good business by Ryanair, a better than nothing deal for Munster supporters, and a shafting for Leinster supporters.

Don’t you just love the attention to detail (3) ….

Late last November, I highlighted some boo boos by the Leinster Branch and Optimus. There was even one reader who missed the Mangers on the Leinster Rugby season ticket. Interestingly, a friend of mine brought up the Mangers faux pas with a sheepskin coated Leinster rugby alikadoo who had to acknowledge the embarassment of the mistake.

To follow on from those, there was an interesting press release from the oil exploration company Providence Resources last Friday. The release was to announce a new loan facility that the company had secured. It seems however that not everyone in Providence was familiar with the terms, or at least the description, the loan involved. From the release:

Providence Resources P.l.c. (‘Providence’) is very pleased to announce that it has agreed a US $250 million Senior First Lien Secured Revolving Line ,000,000
Senior First Lien Secured Revolving Line (Tony, sounds painful – can we simply the description?) of of Credit Facility (‘Facility’) with Macquarie Bank Limited (‘Macquarie’).

Apart from the actual inserted commentary, there are a few other things that my first class teacher, Mrs. Durcan, wouldn’t be too happy with.
