Yes, it is actually possible to get free text messages in Ireland. This has the benefit of allowing you send a message to more than 1 person at a time. You can also store your contacts telephone numbers in your own private area where you login.

You must have a valid O2 phone number for this service.

Value Ireland Special Tip - If you used to be an O2 subscriber, but then change over to another mobile company, you still keep your 250 free text messages per month. But don't tell O2.....

Vodafone - www.vodafone.ie - Finally, Vodafone also  provide an online service where you can send up to 300 free text messages from your computer every month.

OceanFree - www.oceanfree.net - OceanFree offer you 3 free text messages per day if you register on their website.

11850 - www.11850.ie - The Directory Enquiries company 11850 provide you the facility to send 10 free text messages every day via their website. You must register on their website to avail of this facility.

VHI - www.vhi.ie - The health insurance company VHI provide you with the facility to register on their website and to send up to 10 text messages per day.

Value Ireland Special Tip - But we don't condone this - It appears that though the VHI insist that you are a policy holder before using their free SMS message facility, you can actually type in a bogus policy number and it will be accepted and you can use the service.

Oxygen - www.oxygen.ie - This site allows you to register and avail of 20 free text messages per week. It appears that the site is focused towards students, but you don't have to be to avail of the free SMS messages.

TopUp.ie - www.topup.ie - When you register on this website, you will receive 5 free SMS messages up front. You can then get 100 text messages, and 25 messages for free, for €10.
