Make your Manky nominations for shoddy Irish products and services

Recently, I wrote about the Australian Consumer Choice Shonky awards. In the absence of anything similar here in Ireland, I thought we could come up with our own Manky Awards.

Is there any product or service that you had the misfortune of encountering during 2009 which you think deserves a Manky award?

Post comments below and we’ll see where this goes.

One that really really bothers me is the Irish Rail website. Not a rip-off per se, but so totally user-unfriendly and it’s been like that for years at this stage.

Giving myself stress just thinking about it!

I argee with Ronan Irish Rail site is terrible.

My Manky would go to Imagine WiMax services. Their ads promised super fast broadband. WiMax is capable of speeds up to 100Mb. Imagine had an opportunity to really shake up broadband in Ireland. Instead they decided to limit the speeds to similar to competitors and at a slightly lower cost. Thus attracting customers away from eircom and others while maximising their profits.

Mark S’s post reminded me of a definite winner – 3 Mobile.

Their mobile ‘broadband’ service has got to be the greatest pile of doodoo EVER! Sometimes it is even worse than dial-up!

    Avoid, avoid, avoid!

For me it has to be Permanent TSB for having the cheek to increase mortgage rates earlier in the year when people are in trouble already trying to repay mortgages they couldnt afford in the first place but TSB still went ahead and lent them money. So when they got themselves in trouble they wsnt us to bail them out. For me thats beyond Cheeky, but i wont use the choice language i think they deserve.
Anyway Happy Christmas to everyone else.
