Role

An Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Ms. Mary Harney, T.D., established a Consumer Strategy Group (CSG) on 10th March 2004 to advise on the development of a national consumer policy.

The Consumer Strategy Group is now inviting you to submit your views on any consumer related issue you feel may be important.

The Group is focussing on the key principles guiding the consumer agenda - Access, Safeguards, Advice and Support, Redress, Consumer Power, Business Interest and Consumers.

Click here to submit your comments for discussion on the Value Ireland Forum. We will consolidate all the comments presented into a comprehensive submission on behalf of Value Ireland users to this group.

Role The Consumers' Association of Ireland Ltd. (CAI) was set up in 1966 to protect and educate consumers. It is the aim of CAI to represent consumers making sure that their needs as consumers of goods and services are given higher priority.

CAI is an independent, non-profit and non-government organisation.

Role The Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs is an independent statutory office, responsible for providing advice and information to consumers and for the enforcement of a wide range of consumer protection laws, including laws on deceptive trading practices, restrictive practices, consumer credit, package travel, unfair contract terms, timeshare, consumer safety, (mandatory standards), food labelling, textile labelling, unit pricing and price displays.

Role The Competition Authority is a statutory body with a specific role to enforce Irish competition law. Competition law is designed, primarily, to protect and benefit the consumer. Whether you are accessing this website as a student, a solicitor, a company director or a Government Minister, you are still a consumer and as such entitled to your rights under the Competition Act of 2002.

Role The Consumer Advisory Council, which is run jointly by Consumer Policy Section and the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs, is a formal mechanism for consulting with key interest groups on issues affecting consumers that fall within the policy remit of the Department.

The Council aims (i) to keep members informed of relevant developments at domestic and EU levels, (ii) to allow them to make inputs to the policy development process and (iii) to co-operatively identify and advance their own consumer policy agenda. The membership includes consumer and business representatives, the trade union movement, regulatory authorities and complaints bodies.

Role The Dublin European Consumer Centre can provide you with information on your rights as a consumer in Ireland and the European Union.

If you live in Ireland and have a dispute with a retailer in another Member State, or if you live in another European country and have a dispute with an Irish retailer the Centre aims to solve it through co-operation with experts in their sister Centres across the European Union.
